Hav Surendra Singh, Incharge of nurseries of unit said that we consider the seeds as trees and do the plantations for our future generations. He also informed that we rear these saplings and care for them as our own children.  The officials were briefed on leaf composting, vermin culture & kitchen waste management & shown how unit is managing its Bio & Kitchen waste & is using it for making compost & enriching the soil in unit area.

Every year lakhs of saplings are planted by Army units & this knowledge will surely go a long way in ensuring survivability of plantation & making Uttarakhand green.

Eco Task Force, the world’s first ecological Army unit which was raised in 1982 & affiliated to the Garhwal Rifles has commendable history, famously known for its Mussoorie Project which involved stopping limestone Mining in Mussoorie hills & afforesting the hills of Mussoorie that were destroyed & devastated due to illegal mining & limestone quarrying also responsible for cutting of forest by mining mafias in early Eighties.  The efforts of this unit has brought back the pristine glory of the town and the greenery in the valley and mountains around Mussoorie resulting in lowering of the temperatures triggering snowfall which had become elusive in the region again.

The officials also said that the unit each year gifts saplings during plantations free of cost & firm demand can be placed by individuals & institutions on email -This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or Whats App on 7830620000.
