Patna, 22nd March.
A bridge under construction in Bihar’s Supaul collapsed, killing one person and trapping numerous others. The bustling building site near Maricha became a scene of turmoil and disaster after collapsing at 7 a.m. today, sparking emergency rescue efforts by local authorities and volunteers.

Authorities believe that 30 workers may still be buried beneath the debris.

The bridge being built over the river Kosi is estimated to cost ₹ 984 million.

The catastrophe bears a striking resemblance to the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, which provoked a war of words between the state government and the opposition BJP. The four-lane bridge built over the Ganges river had collapsed like a house of cards.

The bridge was planned to connect Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts.

The under-construction bridge, which caved in, cost about ₹ 1,700 crore and was scheduled to be completed by 2019. In February 2014, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for the project.
