Among those sworn in were prominent leaders including Sharad Pawar, Ramdas Athawale and Anbumani Ramadoss, along with representatives from multiple political parties.

The oath-taking ceremony reflected India’s linguistic diversity, with members taking oath in Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, English, Bengali and Odia. Six members took oath in Tamil, while others opted for regional languages including Marathi, Bengali and Odia.

The 19 members represent four states—Maharashtra (5), Tamil Nadu (6), West Bengal (5) and Odisha (3), underscoring the federal character of the Upper House.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Mody were present during the proceedings.
