New Delhi, 5th Aug. Members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) protested outside Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in connection with an anti-Sikh riots case from 1984.

A brief scuffle also erupted outside the Rouse Avenue Court between members of the DSGMC and the Delhi Police, prompting the police to close the courtroom’s entry gate for security concerns.

Tytler had appeared at the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with an anti-Sikh riot charge after being summoned to appear today.

During the hearing, the court asked Tytler to furnish the bail bond as per the condition imposed by the sessions court. Subsequently, he will have to furnish a bail bond of ₹ 1 lakh as directed by the sessions court.

Tytler was granted anticipatory bail by the sessions court on Friday in a case involving burning in a gurdwara in North Delhi during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Stating that it has received the bail order granted by the sessions court, the Rouse Avenue court directed to supply a chargesheet to Tytler, which has been done.

On May 20, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a chargesheet against Tytler in connection with anti-Sikh riots in 1984, following the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. The chargesheet names Tytler, a former Member of Parliament, as an accused.

During the CBI investigation, evidence showed up that the accused allegedly instigated, incited, and provoked the mob assembled at Gurudwara Pul Bangash in Azad Market, Delhi, on November 1, 1984, resulting in the burning of Gurudwara Pul Bangash and the killing of three Sikhs by the mob, apart from the burning and looting of shops.
