3.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Meghalaya, Second in 5 Hours

Tura, 28th Feb. The National Center for Seismology reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale in Meghalaya’s Tura in the early hours of Tuesday.

The tremors were felt at 6.57 a.m., 59 kilometers north of Tura.

The earthquake’s depth was reported to be 29 kilometers.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.7, Occurred on 28-02-2023, 06:57:18 IST, Lat: 26.04 & Long: 90.11, Depth: 29 Km, Location: 59km N of Tura, Meghalaya,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of the National Center for Seismology.

This is the second earthquake to be reported in the northeast region on Tuesday.

Earlier, in the early hours of Tuesday, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck Manipur’s Noney district, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

The quake struck at a depth of 25 kilometers around 2.46 a.m.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:3.2, Occurred on 28-02-2023, 02:46:39 IST, Lat: 24.67 & Long: 93.66, Depth: 25 Km, Location: Noney, Manipur, India,” the NCS said in a tweet.

Meghalaya went to the polls for the Assembly on Monday, with an overall turnout of more than 81 percent.
