Agra, 13th April.
Despite facing defeat in 98 consecutive elections, 78-year-old Hasnuram Ambedkari, fondly known as ‘Dharti Pakad’, remains undeterred in his electoral pursuits as he gears up to file his nomination for the Lok Sabha polls once again.

Hailing from Kheragarh tehsil in Agra district, Ambedkari has been contesting elections since 1985, starting as an Independent candidate.

His journey, marked by relentless determination and unwavering spirit, has earned him the nickname ‘Dharti Pakad’, reminiscent of another legendary candidate, Kaka Joginder Singh ‘Dharti Pakad’, who contested over 300 elections without success.

Reflecting on his electoral journey, Ambedkari shared his initial motivation, citing a promise of a ticket from the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) for the Kheragarh constituency, which was later denied to him.

Determined to prove his detractors wrong, he decided to contest the elections and secured the third position in his maiden attempt.

Since then, Ambedkari has contested various elections ranging from Gram Pradhan to Lok Sabha, with an unsuccessful bid even for the post of President of India. Despite numerous setbacks, his resolve remains unshaken, fueled by a desire to demonstrate his ability to garner votes from the people.

A follower of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and associated with the Backward and Minority Communities Employees’ Federation (BAMCEF) in the past, Ambedkari continues to pursue his electoral aspirations with the support of his family. His wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and daughters rally behind him, both morally and financially, as he embarks on yet another electoral campaign.

With the filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha polls underway, Ambedkari is set to file his nomination papers for the Agra reserved seat and Fatehpur Sikri seat.

Despite the daunting odds and a history of defeats, he remains steadfast in his quest, driven by the belief that every election brings him closer to his 100th attempt, after which he plans to retire from electoral politics.

Ambedkari’s story is a testament to resilience and unwavering determination, encapsulating the spirit of grassroots democracy as he continues to pursue his electoral dreams against all odds.
