New Delhi, 6th Feb. Within hours of Turkey being struck by a massive earthquake, New Delhi decided to dispatch National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) search and rescue teams, medical teams, and relief supplies.

This was done in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to offer Turkey all possible assistance. This outreach is noteworthy in light of the ups and downs of bilateral relations in recent years.

“Anguished by the loss of lives and damage of property due to the Earthquake in Turkey. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. India stands in solidarity with the people of Turkey and is ready to offer all possible assistance to cope with this tragedy,” PM Modi tweeted in the morning.

A few hours later, the PM tweeted, “Deeply pained to learn that the devastating earthquake has also affected Syria. My sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We share the grief of the Syrian people and remain committed to provide assistance and support in this difficult time.”
