“Power Comes, Power Goes,” says NCP Leader in Dig at Eknath Shinde & BJP

Pune, 13th Feb. Ajit Pawar, leader of the National Congress Party (NCP), claimed on Sunday that the Maharashtra government could fall again because court decisions on petitions related to the state’s political crisis last year were still pending.

Pawar, the deputy chief minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, stated that power changes hands because status does not last forever.

He made the remarks while speaking at a Kasba Assembly bye-election campaign event in Pune.

“Power does not remain with anyone forever. No one is born with a silver spoon. Power comes, power goes. The decision of the Supreme Court (on the pleas on Maharashtra political crisis) is yet to come. The decision of the Election Commission is yet to come, anything can happen. If the MLAs get disqualified, then there may be a change (of government) again. Everyone should keep this in mind,” Pawar said on Sunday.

The MVA government collapsed last year as a result of a Shiv Sena split, with Uddhav Thackeray stepping down as chief minister on June 30, 2022.

With the support of the BJP, Eknath Shinde, who led the dissident Sena MLAs, took the oath of office as chief minister.

The battle for primacy between rival Sena factions, however, is far from over, with the Supreme Court scheduling a hearing on a batch of petitions filed by Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in connection with last year’s political crisis for February 14.

On January 10, a five-judge Constitution bench comprised of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and PS Narasimha stated, “We will hear it (the batch of Maharashtra political crisis) on February 14.”

Previously, an unconstitutional government was running Maharashtra, said a group led by Uddhav Thackeray.

The Pune bypolls will be held on February 26 and the results will be announced on March 2.

The bypoll was called after Kasba Peth MLA Mukta Tilak died on December 22 of last year.

The Chinchwad Assembly seat in Pune, which became vacant after the death of sitting MLA Laxman Jagtap on January 3, will be decided by byelection on the same day.

The NCP fielded Nana Kate from the Chinchwad assembly constituency in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

The Congress will run in the Kasba byelection as part of an agreement reached between the MVA partners.
