Bhopal, 31st July. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced the suspension of two officials following the tragic death of a three-year-old girl who fell into an open borewell in Singrauli district.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when the girl, identified as Soumya, slipped into the borewell while playing in an agricultural field.

The borewell, over 250 feet deep, had the child stuck at a depth of 25 feet. Rescue efforts took five-and-a-half hours, but Soumya was declared dead upon reaching the hospital.

CM Yadav, in a social media post on X, stated that he has ordered the suspension of the Assistant Engineer from the Public Health Engineering Department and the then Chief Executive Officer of Janpad Panchayat Chitrangi. The action was taken due to negligence in verifying the safety certificate for the open borewell.

Yadav said that such incidents must be prevented in the future and that all administrative officers have been instructed to ensure similar occurrences do not repeat. The borewell was located in a village within the Janpad Panchayat Chitrangi, approximately 40 km from the district headquarters.
