Ruling Alliance Lacks Firm Decision: NCP’s Rohit Pawar on Maratha Quota

Latur, 31st July. Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Rohit Pawar criticized the ruling coalition leaders for their indecision on the Maratha reservation issue, asserting that the only way to secure job and education quotas for the Maratha community is through a constitutional amendment.

Speaking to the media at Rashtrawadi Bhavan in Latur, central Maharashtra, Pawar expressed frustration over the lack of decisive action by the ruling alliance. He highlighted that previous resolutions on Maratha reservation were overturned after a legal challenge from a supporter of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Pawar also noted that discussions between Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar regarding the reservation issue have not been transparent. He emphasized that securing Maratha reservation through courts would require constitutional changes.

Responding to concerns raised by Sharad Pawar about potential unrest similar to Manipur’s situation, Rohit Pawar acknowledged the injustice faced by people in Manipur and warned of possible unrest in Maharashtra. He suggested that tensions between communities could lead to riots, particularly with the upcoming assembly elections in mind.

On criticisms from Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar regarding Sharad Pawar, Rohit Pawar invited Ambedkar to join the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), noting that Ambedkar’s previous decision to contest separately had indirectly benefited the BJP.

Pawar also slammed the state government for its failure to effectively implement the Ladki Bahin scheme aimed at supporting underprivileged women.
