GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 17th August. The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to Phase-3 of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, which includes two elevated corridors totaling 44.65 kilometers and 31 stations. The project, with a total completion cost of Rs. 15,611 crore, is expected to be operational by 2029.

Corridor Details:

Corridor-1: Stretching 32.15 km from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura along the Outer Ring Road West, featuring 22 stations.

Corridor-2: Covering 12.50 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road, with 9 stations.

Once completed, Phase-3 will expand Bengaluru’s Metro Rail Network to a total length of 220.20 km, significantly enhancing the city’s connectivity.

Project Benefits:

Enhanced Connectivity: The new lines will connect previously underserved areas, including industrial hubs, IT clusters, and educational institutions. Key locations like Peenya Industrial Area, Bannerghatta Road, and Tumkuru Road will gain improved access.

Reduction in Traffic Congestion: By providing an efficient alternative to road transport, Phase-3 is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly on major routes like the Outer Ring Road West and Magadi Road.

Environmental Impact: The project will help reduce carbon emissions by promoting public transportation over fossil fuel-based vehicles.

Economic Growth: Improved access and reduced travel times are anticipated to boost productivity, generate jobs, and stimulate local businesses. The project is also expected to attract investment and development to previously less accessible areas.

Social Impact: Enhanced public transport access will benefit diverse socio-economic groups, improving overall quality of life by reducing commute times and increasing access to essential services.

Multi-Modal Integration & Last Mile Connectivity:

Phase-3 will include multi-modal integration at 10 key locations, providing interchanges with existing and under-construction Metro stations, BMTC bus stands, and Indian Railway stations. The project will also feature dedicated bus bays, pedestrian paths, and parking facilities at 11 major stations. Additionally, the new stations will support bike and cycle-sharing facilities, and direct connectivity will be provided through foot-over-bridges (FoBs) and skywalks to nearby railway stations.

This expansion of the Bangalore Metro Rail Network is set to transform urban mobility in the city, integrating various transport modes and enhancing connectivity across Bengaluru.
