New Delhi, 2nd June: In a major step towards accelerating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Har Ghar Jal”, the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Government of Jharkhand on Tuesday signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 to strengthen access to safe and reliable drinking water in rural and tribal areas of the state.

The agreement is aimed at ensuring sustainable and quality drinking water services for households across Jharkhand, particularly in remote villages and tribal regions where access to safe water remains a critical developmental challenge.

The signing ceremony was attended by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V. Somanna, Jharkhand Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Yogendra Prasad, senior officials from the Ministry of Jal Shakti and representatives of the state government.

Officials described the agreement as a significant milestone in advancing the objectives of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and strengthening the implementation of the Centre’s flagship “Har Ghar Jal” initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders from both the Centre and the state emphasized that the partnership goes beyond the installation of water supply infrastructure and is focused on improving the quality of life of people living in rural and tribal communities.

They noted that access to safe drinking water would help reduce water-borne diseases, improve public health outcomes and ease the burden on women, who often spend long hours collecting water from distant sources.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to social and economic development by ensuring reliable water supply systems in underserved areas.

Officials said the Centre and the Jharkhand government are committed to implementing the programme in a time-bound manner through coordinated efforts and continuous monitoring.

The MoU is expected to provide fresh momentum to drinking water projects across the state and support the broader objective of ensuring that every household in Jharkhand has access to clean and safe drinking water.

The partnership marks another step in the nationwide effort to achieve universal rural drinking water coverage and improve living standards in some of the country’s most remote communities.
