Addressing the inauguration ceremony, President Murmu highlighted Odisha’s rich traditions of knowledge, culture, spirituality and service. She said the land of Mahaprabhu Jagannath has for centuries spread the message of inclusivity, compassion and human welfare.
Referring to Cuttack’s historical legacy, the President recalled its association with eminent personalities including Madhusudan Das, Gauri Shankar Ray, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Biju Patnaik, Pandit Gopabandhu Das and Dr Harekrushna Mahtab.
She expressed hope that Jagadguru Kripalu University would emerge as a powerful institution for serving society and the nation by integrating India’s ancient cultural and spiritual traditions with modern education.
President Murmu said India has one of the youngest populations in the world and described its youth as the country’s “greatest asset”.
“To make optimal use of this asset, our universities must create an environment where young people can develop their talents and realize their dreams and aspirations,” she said.
The President stressed that students must receive value-based education, adding that universities have a responsibility to develop citizens guided by integrity, discipline, sensitivity and commitment to the national interest.
She said knowledge acquired by young people becomes truly meaningful when it is used for humanity, social welfare and national progress.
Highlighting India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, President Murmu said higher education institutions have a pivotal role in achieving the objective.
She urged universities to function as centres of knowledge where ideas and technologies are developed to address the needs of society. Students, she added, should embrace modern knowledge while remaining committed to ethical values.
The President welcomed Jagadguru Kripalu University’s focus on research, innovation and entrepreneurship, alongside the cultural and spiritual development of students.
She expressed confidence that the university would produce skilled professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs capable of contributing to the goals of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat.
