VP Radhakrishnan Pays Tribute to Gandhi, Shastri and Kamaraj

New Delhi, 2nd Oct: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj on occasions marking Gandhi and Shastri’s birth anniversaries and Kamaraj’s death anniversary.
At Raj Ghat, the Vice-President paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary and recalled his commitment to truth, non-violence, justice and the dignity of every individual. He said Gandhi’s message continues to inspire values of peace, compassion, selflessness and service.
Radhakrishnan called upon people to reaffirm their commitment to Gandhi’s ideals and work towards building a just, harmonious and inclusive society.
At Vijay Ghat, he paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. Describing Shastri as a leader of quiet strength and resolve, the Vice-President highlighted his humility, integrity and commitment to the nation.
He also recalled Shastri’s famous call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, saying it recognised the contribution of India’s soldiers and farmers. He said Shastri’s life remains a reminder that leadership is rooted in simplicity, courage and service.
At Uprashtrapati Bhavan, Radhakrishnan paid tribute to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Kamaraj on his death anniversary. He recalled Kamaraj’s contribution to public life and his focus on the welfare of ordinary people.
The Vice-President highlighted Kamaraj’s role in expanding roads and educational institutions, introducing the midday meal programme and promoting irrigation and industrial development in Tamil Nadu through dams and industrial estates.
Radhakrishnan said Kamaraj’s public life was guided by Gandhian thought and marked by a sustained focus on nation-building and social welfare.
