New Delhi, 27th Oct: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has criticised the Congress over the INDIA bloc’s proposed rally in Delhi on November 1, accusing the party of putting its political agenda ahead of national interests and traders’ concerns during the Diwali season.
Reacting to the planned rally, Chouhan said the Congress had shown little concern for the country, its people or the economy. He alleged that the party was focused primarily on advancing its political agenda.
The minister’s remarks come amid appeals from Delhi’s traders to postpone the rally until after Diwali, citing concerns that traffic restrictions and road closures could disrupt business during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.
Traders’ Concerns at the Centre of Debate
Chouhan said traders wanted to carry on their businesses and allow people to celebrate Diwali without disruption. He accused the Congress of remaining firm on holding the rally despite these concerns.
“The Congress has nothing to do with the national interest,” the minister said, reiterating his criticism of the party’s decision to proceed with the protest.
The INDIA bloc rally is scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan, with a large turnout expected. Traders have warned that the gathering could affect access to markets across parts of central and Old Delhi.
The dispute has brought the potential impact on festive-season commerce into the political debate, with opposition plans for the rally facing criticism from the ruling BJP.
