28 MPs, Including Harbhajan Singh, Misa Bharti, and Rajeev Shukla, take oath in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, 18th July. Over 25 other leaders on Monday took the oath of office as Rajya Sabha members, including the cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh, Misa Bharti, daughter of the former chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.

A Rao Meena, Vijay Sai Reddy, Kheeru Mahto, Maharashtra Majhi, Aditya Prasad, Praful Patel, Imran Pratapgarhi, Sanjay Raut, Sasmit Patra, Sandeep Kumar Pathak, and Vikramjeet Singh Sahani were among others.

Others who took the oath today were Randeep Singh Surjewal, P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, R Girl Rajan, S Kalyan Sundaram, KRN Rajesh Kumar, Javed Ali Khan, and V Vijendra Prasad.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, renowned former athlete PT Usha (from Kerala) and iconic music composer Ilaiyaraaja (from Tamil Nadu) were unable to take the oath in the Rajya Sabha.

On the first day of the Monsoon session of Parliament, newly elected lawmakers from various political parties took their oaths.

Later, obituary references were given in memory of several luminaries who had recently died.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, ex-UAE President Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki were also paid tributes.

The RS paid tributes to Former members Kishore Kumar Mohanty, Robert Kharshiing, K K Veerappan, and santoor musician Pandit Shivkumar Sharma also.

Later, Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody laid on the table a statement (in English and Hindi) outlining the Bills passed by the Houses of Parliament and signed by the President during the 256th session of the Rajya Sabha.

Disruption in the proceedings by the members of the opposition party made a commotion in the House, which led it to adjourn for the whole day.
