Vijayawada, 17th Oct. The Communist Party of India (CPI) passed a resolution demanding that Amaravati remain the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh at its 24th national congress on Sunday.

It also asked the Centre and the state government to share responsibility for building Amaravati’s capital city.

The CPI strongly condemned the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s stance on building three capitals for the state, claiming that it stoked unnecessary regional feelings among the people.

Muppalla Nageswara Rao, assistant secretary of the CPI’s AP unit, moved the resolution, which was unanimously approved by the Congress.

The CPI recalled in the resolution that when a resolution was passed in the Assembly in September 2014, all parties, including the YSR Congress, approved Amaravati as the state capital city.

Hundreds of farmers gave up their land and donated 34,000 acres for Amaravati’s development. According to the resolution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the capital in October 2015, and over the years, Rs 10,000 crore has been spent on building the state Secretariat, High Court, Legislature, employee housing, roads, and other infrastructure.

After taking power in 2019, the Jagan regime announced a plan to have three capitals for the state, causing hundreds of farmers in the Amaravati region to suffer.

The central government is not concerned about the construction of the Amaravati capital, though foundation stone was laid by the Prime Minister, the CPI alleged.

Condemning the Jagan government’s negative approach to building the state capital, the CPI demanded that both the state and central governments take responsibility and begin building Amaravati as the state capital.
