New Delhi, 3rd April.
Manish Sisodia, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, who was arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case in February last year, appeared before a Delhi court on Tuesday seeking bail.

Sisodia conveyed to Special Judge MK Nagpal during the bail hearing that prolonging his detention serves no purpose.

In his plea, Sisodia emphasized that the investigation into the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, for which he was arrested, had been concluded. He assured the court that there was no risk of him obstructing the probe or tampering with evidence.

Additionally, Sisodia expressed his willingness to comply with any conditions imposed by the court if bail is granted. Currently incarcerated in Tihar jail, Sisodia awaits the court’s decision on his bail plea.

Earlier, Sisodia was remanded to judicial custody following representations by the ED, citing the critical stage of the case and the potential for interference with the investigation if he were released.

The ED’s case stems from an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning irregularities in the modification of Delhi’s liquor policy. The CBI alleged favoritism towards license holders, unauthorized waivers or reductions in license fees, and extensions of L-1 licenses without proper approvals.

According to the CBI, the beneficiaries diverted illicit gains to the accused, including Sisodia, and falsified records to evade detection.

Sisodia’s arrest in February 2023 led to his resignation from the position of Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi. Since then, he has been in custody awaiting trial, asserting his innocence in the ongoing legal proceedings.
