New Delhi, 4th Oct. The Enforcement Directorate arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering case involving Delhi’s now-withdrawn new excise policy, officials said.

After former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, this is the second high-profile arrest in the case.

The arrest happened hours after the ED raided the AAP Rajya Sabha MP’s house in connection with the investigation.

Previously, in a letter to Finance Secretary TV Somanathan in May, Sanjay Singh claimed that the ED director and assistant director purposefully linked his name to the alleged liquor scam without any basis, ruining his public image and defaming him.

Singh stated that his name was added based on Dinesh Arora’s claims. The AAP leader went on to say that officers used their positions to smear his public image and demanded that they be prosecuted.

He added that he had already sent a legal notice to the officers concerned to issue an open and public apology.

According to ED sources, the name of the AAP leader appears four times in the ED chargesheet, one of which was typed inadvertently.

At one place Sanjay Singh’s name was mentioned instead of Rahul Singh, who was the then excise commissioner.
