Chandigarh, 5th Feb.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and supporters in Chandigarh were detained by the police while protesting against the BJP. The protest was in response to allegations of rigging in the Chandigarh Mayor elections on Sunday.

The AAP workers in Chandigarh were holding playcards to express their opposition to the BJP.

Previously, AAP workers and leaders in Delhi also protested against the BJP, accusing them of rigging the Chandigarh mayoral election.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other party leaders, joined the protest in Delhi against the BJP regarding the Chandigarh mayoral elections.

The AAP and Congress have taken the matter of the Chandigarh Mayoral poll results to the Supreme Court. A hearing was held on January 31 in the Punjab Haryana High Court regarding the alleged tampering of the results.

In the Punjab Haryana High Court, Kuldeep Kumar, the mayoral candidate from the AAP and Congress, was represented by Advocate General of Punjab, Gurminder Gary. Advocate Anil Mehta represented the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.

After considering the case, the Punjab Haryana High Court granted the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Administration three weeks to file their replies. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for February 26.

Manoj Sonkar of the BJP was declared the Mayor of Chandigarh on Tuesday after winning the mayoral polls with 16 votes, while the Congress-AAP candidate, Kuldeep Tita, received 12 votes. Eight votes were declared invalid.

The invalidation of eight votes in the Chandigarh Mayoral polls has led opposition leaders to accuse the BJP-led central government of rigging, with Congress and AAP attacking them over the issue.
