Kolkata, 10th May.
Trinamool Congress’ national general secretary and incumbent candidate from the Diamond Harbour constituency, Abhishek Banerjee, officially filed his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Friday.

Banerjee, who is also the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seeks a third consecutive term representing the constituency in South 24 Parganas district.

Expressing confidence in his electoral prospects, Banerjee emphasized his commitment to serving the people and his optimism for victory.

“I am contesting an election. I am not an astrologer. I can’t predict the future but I have left no stone unturned in serving the people… I am hopeful and optimistic that the margin that Diamond Harbour delivered last time will eventually increase and people’s love and blessings will continue to be showered upon us as we have worked in the last ten years,” he stated after filing his nomination.

West Bengal, with its 42 parliamentary constituencies, is witnessing elections across all seven phases.

The polling for six Lok Sabha seats in Bengal has already taken place in the initial three phases, on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
The remaining seats will go to polls on May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, with vote counting scheduled for June 4.

In the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the Trinamool Congress secured a significant victory with 34 seats, while the BJP managed only 2 seats.

The CPI (M) won 2 seats, and the Congress secured 4. However, in the 2019 polls, the BJP made significant gains, winning 18 seats against the TMC’s 22.

The Congress’s tally dropped to just 2 seats, while the Left failed to secure any.
