New Delhi, 10th Aug. An advocate was promoted as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court on Thursday.

On ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointment of Manjusha Ajay Deshpande.

The official order in this regard stated, “In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Manjusha Ajay Deshpande, Advocate, as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court for a period of two years with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office.”

She has been appointed for a two-year term. Additional judges are often appointed for a two-year term before being elevated to the rank of judge, or what is popularly referred to as a “permanent judge.”

In July, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended her name. Previously, on May 2, the top court Collegium postponed its judgment on the recommendation and decided to seek a report from the acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay in light of various points raised by the government in the case.

“The elevation of the candidate would add to the representation of women on the Bench of the High Court of Bombay particularly amongst women lawyers practising before the Bench at Aurangabad,” the collegium had said recommending her name to the government.
