Alliance Talks Between Congress and AAP in Haryana Hit Roadblock, AAP to Contest 50 Seats

Chandigarh, 6th Sept. The ongoing alliance discussions between the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls have encountered a significant roadblock, sources revealed on Friday. AAP, led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is reportedly preparing to contest 50 of the 90 assembly seats in the state independently.

According to AAP insiders, the party is likely to release its first list of candidates on Sunday. This development comes just ahead of a meeting of the Congress’ central election committee.

“The alliance talks are nearing collapse in Haryana, and AAP is planning to go ahead with contesting 50 seats on its own,” sources in AAP stated.

Earlier, AAP was reportedly seeking 10 assembly seats in Haryana as part of the alliance, but Congress was offering only five to seven seats. As no agreement has been reached on seat sharing, the likelihood of an alliance seems dim.

Both parties are part of the Indian Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and had previously contested the Lok Sabha polls together in Haryana, Gujarat, and Delhi. In Haryana, AAP was allocated the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat, where state president Sushil Gupta contested but lost to BJP’s Navin Jindal.

In addition, AAP sources claim that several disgruntled leaders from both the BJP and Congress are considering joining their ranks in the lead-up to the assembly elections scheduled for October 5.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP and Congress in Haryana are facing internal opposition over ticket distribution, with some leaders, including sitting BJP MLAs, announcing their departure from the party after being denied tickets for the upcoming polls.
