Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of spreading false propaganda regarding the Agniveer military recruitment scheme. This allegation comes after Gandhi’s statement during an election meeting in Haryana for the Lok Sabha polls, where he claimed that the Agniveer scheme would be scrapped if the INDIA bloc came to power.

Shah stated that 25% of Agniveers would receive permanent postings in the Army, while the remaining 75% would be eligible for reservations in state government and paramilitary forces. He emphasized that hardly any Agniveer would be left without employment due to these provisions.

Speaking to reporters in Dharamshala, Shah criticized Gandhi for his alleged misinformation campaign on Agniveer, labeling it as a tactic of spreading lies for political gain.

“Rahul has started a tradition of making lies a poll issue, and Agniveer is the biggest example,” Shah remarked.

Highlighting the benefits of the Agniveer scheme, Shah mentioned that BJP-ruled state governments have implemented 10-20% reservation in the police force for Agniveers. Additionally, a 10% reservation has been allocated to central paramilitary forces.

Agniveers enjoy various relaxations, including age and examination criteria, and are exempt from physical tests. Shah assured that almost every Agniveer would find employment in state police or central paramilitary forces. Furthermore, private security agencies and companies are encouraged to prioritize Agniveers, who receive government-funded training, competitive salaries, gratuity, and other benefits.

The remarks by Shah come amidst a political debate over the efficacy and implications of the Agniveer scheme, reflecting the broader discourse on military recruitment and employment policies in the country.
