Amit Shah Blames Congress for Denying Refugees Citizenship Rights Due to Appeasement Policy

Ahmedabad, 18th August. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused past governments, led by the Congress and its allies, of denying citizenship rights to a large number of refugees in India due to their “appeasement policy.”

Speaking at a gathering in Ahmedabad after distributing citizenship certificates to 188 Hindu refugees in Gujarat, Shah emphasized that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is aimed at providing justice to lakhs of refugees. He also reassured Muslims that the CAA has no provision for taking away anyone’s citizenship, reiterating that it only concerns granting citizenship.

Shah criticized previous administrations for allowing “crores of intruders” into the country and granting them citizenship illegally while denying legal applicants their due rights. He attributed this to the political strategies of appeasement employed by Congress-led governments.

“Because of the appeasement policy of past governments, those who sought refuge and followed the law were denied rights and justice,” Shah stated.

He also highlighted the dwindling Hindu population in Bangladesh since partition, noting that while Hindus made up 27 percent of the population at the time, they now constitute just 9 percent, allegedly due to forced religious conversions.
