Assam Govt to Hold ‘Chintan Shivir’ for Ministers, Senior Officers

Guwahati, 31st August. The Assam government will hold a three-day ‘Chintan Shivir’ for its ministers and senior officials next month, to discuss various issues and finalize future plans.

The decision to hold the special session was made during a state cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, which was presided over by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to a cabinet communique shared by Sarma on his official Twitter handle, the proposed ‘Chintan Shivir,’ which will be chaired by the chief minister, will take place on September 24-26 and will be attended by all cabinet ministers and senior most secretaries from around 57 government departments.

“It will deliberate on various pending issues and chalk out a future plan for tracking the issues,” the note added.

The cabinet also approved the construction of 39 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 27 districts and 22 polytechnic institutes in 19 districts at a cost of Rs 307.22 crore.

This will provide 20,000 students with opportunities to learn new technologies and prepare them to meet industry demands, it added.

Furthermore, state government employees will be given ‘Special Casual Leave’ from February 9-11, next year, followed by a Sunday on February 12.

“The employees can spend the time with their living parents/parents-in-law,” the Cabinet noted.

It was also announced that Nayanmoni Saikia, the gold medalist in Lawn Bowls at the recent Commonwealth Games, will be appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The state government has decided to repeal a total of 316 obsolete and unused acts during the upcoming Autumn Session of the Assam Assembly, which begins on September 12.

The Cabinet also decided to amend the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, 1886 to address the state’s unabated encroachment on over 10,897 bighas (more than 3,602 acres) of ‘Bhoodan and Gramdan’ land.

On November 23-24, the Assam government will hold a two-day event in New Delhi to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.

Lachit Borphukan was the Ahom kingdom’s great army commander. He is best known for his leadership in the 1671 ‘Battle of Saraighat’ on the Brahmaputra, which ended a protracted attempt by mighty Mughal forces led by Raja Ramsingh-I to retake Assam.

Since 1999, the National Defence Academy has given the Lachit Borphukan Gold Medal to its best cadet, and a statue of him was later established in the complex.
