Guwahati, 13th April: In a major crackdown, the Assam Police detained four Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor, from Dispur in Guwahati, exposing an alleged illegal entry network operating across the border.

According to officials, the Border Branch of the Police Commissionerate acted on specific intelligence inputs and apprehended the individuals for entering India without valid documents. They are currently being held at Dispur Police Station as legal procedures for deportation are underway.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the group had crossed the India-Bangladesh border on April 10 in search of work after being lured by agents, and reached Guwahati the following day.

In a key breakthrough, police arrested Md Akkash Ali, a taxi driver, who allegedly facilitated their movement after illegal entry.

A case has been registered against him under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Immigration & Foreigners Act, 2025.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing to uncover a possible larger network involved in illegal infiltration and human trafficking across the border.

Authorities are also examining links between local facilitators and cross-border agents, as part of efforts to curb illegal immigration activities in the region.
