Guwahati, 9th April: With the formal conclusion of voting at 5 PM, Assam’s electoral process has entered its decisive phase, recording an impressive 84.42% voter turnout, reflecting what the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party described as an “unprecedented democratic mandate.”

In a statement issued by party media panellist Amal Narayan Patowary, the BJP expressed deep gratitude to the people of Assam for their active and enthusiastic participation in what it termed a “historic electoral exercise.”

According to the party, more than 2.5 crore voters exercised their franchise, showcasing unwavering faith in democratic values and a firm commitment towards shaping the state’s future.

The BJP particularly highlighted the role of youth and first-time voters, stating that their energetic participation reflects the rise of a politically aware, responsible, and forward-looking generation. It noted that such engagement signals the strengthening of participatory democracy in the country.

The large-scale electoral exercise was conducted across 31,890 polling stations, where voters decided the fate of 722 candidates. These included 211 candidates from national parties, 116 from regional parties, 137 from registered unrecognised parties, and 258 independent candidates. Notably, 60 women candidates contested, underlining growing inclusivity in the democratic process.

The party also extended appreciation to the Election Commission of India, polling personnel, and security forces for ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and well-organised election.

Calling the turnout a strong message of public resolve, the BJP said the people of Assam remain committed to safeguarding democratic values while pushing the state towards progress, stability, and development.

The statement further expressed confidence that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is heading towards securing a third consecutive mandate, with the high voter turnout seen as a reflection of public trust in governance and leadership.

The party also acknowledged the role of the media in ensuring smooth conduct of elections, praising its contribution to transparency and voter awareness.
