Ayush Secretary Kotecha Affirms India’s Traditional Medicine Leadership at Unani Day 2024

 Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, reiterated India’s global leadership in traditional medicine during the inauguration of Unani Day 2024 and the National Conference on Unani Medicine for One Earth, One Health, organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) at Pusa, New Delhi.

Secretary Kotecha stressed the importance of evidence-based scientific research in the Ayush sector and highlighted India’s significant research data in the field. The event saw the presence of eminent figures including Vaidya Jayant Deopujari, Chairman of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, and Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science & Technology, among others.

Speaking as the chief guest, Secretary Kotecha emphasized the pivotal role of Unani Medicine in alleviating human suffering, underscoring the theme of Unani Day 2024, “Unani Medicine for One Earth, One Health.” He reiterated the Indian government’s commitment to integrate and promote traditional systems of medicine, including Unani, highlighting their holistic approach to healthcare and preventive measures.

Earlier in the event, Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of CCRUM, paid tribute to Hakim Ajmal Khan, a revered freedom fighter and pioneer of scientific research in Unani Medicine in India. Various publications, e-books, a Mobile App on Unani compound drugs, and a documentary, all developed by CCRUM, were released.

Technical sessions featured discussions by experts from health sciences, academia, and research organizations, focusing on different aspects of the conference theme. The event witnessed a significant collaboration marked by the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CCRUM and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad.

The event also saw the release of several CCRUM printed books and e-books, along with the awarding of appreciation certificates to CCRUM scientists for their outstanding research contributions.

Unani Day 2024 celebrated India’s rich heritage in traditional medicine and facilitated meaningful discussions towards advancing its integration into modern healthcare practices.
