Murthal, 6th March: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Monday urged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free society while addressing the 8th convocation ceremony of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology in Murthal, Sonepat.
Calling upon the youth to reject substance abuse, the Vice President emphasised the importance of adopting a life of purpose, discipline and positivity. He said that building a strong nation requires not just academic excellence but also moral strength and character.
Paying tribute to Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram, he described him as a visionary leader who worked for farmers and marginalised communities, laying the foundation for rural transformation and agricultural progress in Haryana.
Highlighting social progress, the Vice President noted that nearly 64 per cent of gold medal winners at the convocation were women, with women making up around half of the graduating students. He credited initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao for driving positive change in gender balance and empowering women.
Referring to India’s development vision, he said that the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 must be supported by innovation, self-reliance and indigenous solutions. He encouraged students to actively engage with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum computing.
The Vice President also stressed the need to decolonise the mindset, stating that education should instill pride in India’s intellectual traditions while fostering independent thinking.
He further highlighted India’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of global responsibility, noting that the country not only developed vaccines but also supplied them to several nations.
Advising students on life values, he said success should be measured not just by achievements but by integrity, resilience and the ability to overcome challenges.
The event was attended by Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and other dignitaries.
