Bharat Bandh: Transport sector impacted in Tamil Nadu

GG News Bureau

Tamil Nadu, 28th March. The two-day national strike (Bharat Bandh) called for by various unions showed its impact on the public transport sector in Tamil Nadu on Monday as many buses operated by State Transport Undertakings (STU) remained off the road. This affected morning office-going people and others in various places.

As a result, auto-rickshaws were charging exorbitant fares, commuters in cities complained.

While many people had the option of switching to suburban rail services and the Metro Rail, the same was not the case in other cities of Tamil Nadu and people had to depend on the available thin services of government buses and auto rickshaws. The few running buses were crowded beyond capacity.

According to reports, a large number of buses operated by the State Transport Undertakings stayed off the roads. Trade unions took out a rally in the state pressing for their demands.

Many autorickshaw drivers also joined the rally.
