Bharat Tex 2024 Showcases India’s Textile Industry Prowess: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated Bharat Tex 2024, a monumental global textile event held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This event, touted as one of the largest-ever textile gatherings in the nation, witnessed the participation of over 3000 exhibitors and traders from approximately 100 countries, alongside an audience of around 40,000 visitors.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi underscored the significance of Bharat Tex 2024, highlighting its role in connecting India’s rich textile heritage with contemporary talent and technology. He lauded the event as a manifestation of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” symbolizing India’s diverse textile traditions converging under one roof.

Recognizing the integral role of stakeholders across the textile value chain, including weavers and artisans, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to Viksit Bharat, emphasizing its four pillars: the poor, youth, farmers, and women. He outlined the government’s multifaceted approach to bolstering the textile sector, focusing on tradition, technology, talent, and training.

PM Modi elaborated on initiatives aimed at empowering the MSME sector, such as redefining MSME definitions and facilitating direct sales through exhibitions and online platforms. He also outlined plans to establish seven PM MITRA Parks across various states to foster the growth of the textile industry.

Underlining the employment potential within the textile sector, particularly for rural populations and women, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s efforts to promote schemes like Khadi and initiatives to support cotton, jute, and silk producers. He also highlighted the emergence of new sectors like technical textiles, emphasizing the scope for startups in this domain.

PM Modi stressed the importance of balancing mechanization with authenticity in textile production, advocating for skill development and scale expansion. He emphasized the government’s commitment to initiatives like the National Technical Textiles Mission and the Samarth Scheme to enhance capacity building and skill development in the industry.

In line with the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, the Prime Minister encouraged the promotion of indigenous textiles and called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to capitalize on export opportunities. He urged the industry to innovate and diversify its offerings to meet global demands effectively.

Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi assured stakeholders of the government’s support and urged them to envision a new future that aligns with global needs and aspirations.

The event was attended by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal, and Union Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, among other dignitaries.
