Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, during his visit to Delhi to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic third-term oath ceremony, expressed profound admiration for the Indian leader, describing him as a mentor, guru, and elder brother.

In an exclusive interview with a news channel, PM Tobgay emphasized the close relationship he shares with PM Modi, highlighting the significance of their bond in strengthening bilateral ties between India and Bhutan. PM Modi’s first and last international visits during his decade-long tenure were to Bhutan, symbolizing the depth of their rapport.

PM Tobgay underscored PM Modi’s visionary leadership and his commitment to realizing shared goals, which he views as invaluable mentorship. He also lauded PM Modi’s efforts in elevating India-Bhutan relations to new heights through various partnerships and initiatives.

Among the key initiatives discussed is an economic stimulus package worth ₹1,500 crore aimed at revitalizing Bhutan’s economy, which has been grappling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, PM Modi has pledged a substantial assistance package of ₹8,500 crore for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan, focusing on infrastructure, education, and technology development.

Furthermore, PM Tobgay highlighted PM Modi’s unwavering support for the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, located on the India-Bhutan border near Assam. PM Modi’s commitment to investing in the city underscores the depth of India’s support for Bhutan’s development initiatives.

PM Tobgay’s presence at PM Modi’s oath ceremony, along with other regional leaders, reflects the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and its neighboring countries.
