New Delhi, 21st May.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed a longstanding accusation in his political career, revealing that one of the biggest allegations against him was owning 250 pairs of clothes. In an interview with PTI, PM Modi recounted how this claim, made by Congress leader and former Gujarat chief minister Amarsinh Chaudhary, became a focal point during his tenure as Gujarat’s chief minister.

PM Modi disclosed that he countered this accusation during a public meeting by asking the people of Gujarat whether they preferred a chief minister who allegedly stole ₹250 crore or one who simply owned 250 pairs of clothes. He recounted that the overwhelming response from the people was in favor of a leader with an extensive wardrobe rather than one accused of financial corruption.

Reflecting on the incident, PM Modi acknowledged Mr. Chaudhary’s accusation but pointed out discrepancies in the numbers, suggesting that either the zero or the number two in “250” was incorrect. Despite this, PM Modi humorously admitted to accepting the accusation during the public meeting.

The Prime Minister’s revelation comes amidst ongoing scrutiny of his sartorial choices, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently taking a dig at PM Modi’s attire in relation to his monthly salary of ₹1.6 lakh. PM Modi’s response sheds light on how he has navigated political attacks throughout his career, using humor and public engagement to address allegations.
