Bihar CM Nitish Loses Temper Over Reservation Debate in Assembly

Patna, 25th July. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had a heated exchange with Opposition MLAs on Wednesday regarding the demand for inclusion of new reservation policies in the Ninth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Kumar’s frustration was palpable as he slammed the Opposition for failing to engage in constructive dialogue and for demanding amendments to the reservation system.

During the session, Kumar accused the Opposition of not participating in discussions and of ignoring the caste census, which he initiated with broad consensus from all parties. His anger was particularly directed at RJD MLA Rekha Paswan, with whom he had a tense confrontation.

“After 2005, my government made significant efforts to advance women’s roles. It is because of these efforts that you can even speak today,” Kumar said sharply to Paswan. “You claim to advocate for women’s issues, but it was our administration that genuinely supported women’s advancement.”

The Chief Minister also criticized the Opposition for their lack of support during his tenure. “You are now talking nonsense. Those who were with you never promoted women. We were the ones who made strides in that direction.”

Regarding the legal status of the reservation policy, Kumar noted that while the Patna High Court had stayed the reservation, the state government has appealed to the Supreme Court and requested the inclusion of the reservation in the Ninth Schedule.

“If you had listened properly, you would understand the efforts and the status of the matter. Why are you not paying attention?” Kumar exclaimed.
