Bihar: Former BJP MLA Amarnath Gami Returns to Saffron Party

Patna, 17th Oct. Former MLA Amarnath Gami, who was suspended for indiscipline nine years ago, has rejoined the saffron party.

Gami, a two-term legislator, re-joined the BJP in the presence of BJP national general secretary in charge of Bihar Vinod Tawade, state president Sanjay Jaiswal, and union ministers Nityanand Rai and Ashwini Choubey, among others.

The death of Kusum Devi’s husband Subhash Singh, a four-time MLA, necessitated the by-election to Gopalganj, and by fielding a candidate from a caste known to lean towards the BJP, the RJD has upset the applecart.

The by-election will take place on November 3rd.

Notably, Gami was a member of the RJD until recently. He was a BJP MLA from Hayaghat in 2013 when he was suspended after an altercation with party heavyweight Sushil Kumar Modi.

He won the seat back in 2015, when he ran on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD-U ticket (U).

However, five years later, he joined the RJD, claiming disrespect in the chief minister’s party.

The RJD did not field him from Hayaghat, but rather from Darbhanga, where he lost.
