New Delhi, 11th June: A gym operating under popular singer Guru Randhawa’s fitness franchise came under attack in outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar on Wednesday night when unidentified gunmen opened fire at the premises. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Soon after the firing, social media posts purportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack. Delhi Police said the authenticity of the posts is being verified and investigations are underway.
According to the alleged post by gang member Anil Pandit, the gym was targeted as a warning to Guru Randhawa over his reported closeness to Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
“We targeted Guru Randhawa’s gym in Delhi as he was getting very close to Salman Khan,” the post claimed, while also issuing threats of further attacks against perceived enemies.
Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the firing and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that two bike-borne assailants with covered faces fired multiple rounds at the gym before fleeing.
Officials said the facility is operated by a Delhi-based franchisee under Guru Randhawa’s ’24HS Fitness’ brand. The gym owner has been called for questioning as part of the investigation.
Crime scene experts collected evidence from the site, while CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify the attackers and reconstruct their movements.
The incident has once again brought attention to the long-running conflict between the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and actor Salman Khan, which stems from the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan. The Bishnoi community considers the blackbuck a sacred animal.
Over the years, the gang has repeatedly issued threats against Salman Khan and individuals allegedly associated with him. The actor was convicted in the blackbuck case in 2018 and sentenced to five years in prison before being granted bail pending appeal.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has been linked to several high-profile criminal incidents, including the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The gang has also claimed responsibility for attacks and threats targeting celebrities and public figures in India and abroad.
Among the incidents attributed to the gang are attacks on properties linked to singer Gippy Grewal in Canada, firing outside Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence, threats against singer AP Dhillon, the murder of politician Baba Siddiqui, and attacks on establishments associated with comedian Kapil Sharma.
Delhi Police said all angles are being examined and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the firing.
