Pathankot, 22nd July. In a strange turn of events, a man resorted to planting a bomb hoax to get an SUV, which had been parked in front of his shop for the last two months, removed. The Punjab Police announced on Sunday that they had arrested Nitin Mahajan, a 36-year-old resident of Pathankot, for the hoax.

According to the police, Mahajan informed them on Saturday about an abandoned SUV parked on Daki Road in Pathankot’s Balaji Nagar. The vehicle had been vandalized, with its window panes shattered. Surrounding the SUV were handwritten leaflets threatening bomb blasts at government offices and schools in Pathankot within the next five days. One of the messages read, “100 men had entered India with 30 of them in Pathankot,” according to the police. The leaflets also bore the slogan ‘Pakistan Zindabad,’ causing panic in the area, stated Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Suhail Qasim Mir.

During interrogation, Mahajan claimed he heard suspicious noises outside his house around 4:30 am on Saturday. He alleged that he saw four people from his balcony, using a torch, damaging the SUV’s windows and scattering the leaflets. However, police investigations revealed that Mahajan had broken the SUV’s windows himself and written the threatening messages. His motive was to remove the vehicle parked in front of his grocery shop for the past two months.

The SUV belonged to Suresh Kumar, who had left it there over two months ago, police said.

Pathankot district borders the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, the police were on high alert after a villager claimed to have spotted two suspicious men in a local village. Additionally, on June 12, two foreign terrorists were killed in a gunfight in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
