BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Undermining Trust in India’s Examination System

New Delhi, 25th July. The BJP on Wednesday accused Rahul Gandhi of fuelling a lack of trust in India’s examination system following the NEET-UG paper leak at a few locations. The party asked if he will apologise after the Supreme Court’s verdict on the issue.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed pleas seeking the cancellation and re-test of the NEET-UG exam, stating there was no evidence to conclude that the test was “vitiated” due to a “systemic breach” of its sanctity. The court noted the leak occurred in only a couple of cities.

BJP leader and former union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad criticized the opposition, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, after the verdict. He accused Gandhi of defaming India’s examination system globally with his strong language.

“His choice of words violated Parliament’s dignity and the dignity of the office of the Leader of Opposition, a position Gandhi holds,” Prasad stated.

Prasad also dismissed Gandhi’s criticism of the budget as a “kursi bachao budget,” saying it was not the BJP’s fault that people have repeatedly rejected him and his party in elections.

Defending the government’s action on the NEET row, the BJP leader noted that the probe was handed over to the CBI and the candidature of 155 examinees was cancelled. He highlighted the scale of the exam, with over 23.5 lakh students taking it at 4,750 centres across 571 cities.

Gandhi used words like “fraud” to attack the entire examination, Prasad said, adding that the court’s decision confirmed there was no systemic breach in the test’s sanctity. “Will Rahul Gandhi apologise?” Prasad asked, claiming paper leaks were frequent during Congress-led governments.

The Modi government enacted a strong law against paper leak incidents, Prasad concluded.
