New Delhi, 29th Nov.
Sunil Oza, a prominent leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former legislator from Gujarat, passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Oza was recently appointed as the Joint Incharge of the BJP’s Bihar unit, and prior to that, he served as the joint incharge of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit, overseeing Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Oza, who hailed from Bhavnagar in Gujarat, suffered a heart attack this morning and passed away in Delhi. His final rites will be held in Varanasi on November 30th.

In 2007, Oza rebelled against the party after being denied a party ticket and ran as an independent candidate, but was unsuccessful. He later joined the MJP led by Gordhan Zadafiya, but eventually returned to the BJP.

During the 2002 assembly elections in Gujarat, Oza served as the incharge of Rajkot while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was contesting for the first time.

Oza was elected to the legislative assembly from the Bhavnagar South seat in 2002. He was known to be close to PM Narendra Modi and had been working behind the scenes for many years in the party’s organizational setup in the politically crucial states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
