Guwahati, 2nd May.
During an election rally in Assam’s Baksa district, Assam minister and BJP leader Pijush Hazarika showed respect by pausing his speech when namaz was being read at a nearby mosque.

A video of the BJP leader shared on social media platforms shows him stopping for a moment while the namaz was being recited at the mosque, which was located very close to the podium.

Baksa, located in lower Assam, falls under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency.

Four Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam – Barpeta, Dhubri, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar – will be voting in the third phase on May 7, concluding the elections for all 14 parliamentary seats in the state.

During the previous two phases held on April 19 and April 26, ten seats in Assam had already voted.

These four seats are crucial for both the BJP and Congress. The BJP aims to maximize its seat count in the state as part of its national target of 400 seats, while the Congress is striving to win as many seats as possible despite internal challenges.

All four seats going to polls in the third phase have a significant Muslim population, and the BJP is making efforts to connect with them. Despite facing challenges with minority voters, the BJP could benefit from the division between the AIUDF and Congress, both competing for the minority vote.

Assam’s chief minister has been emphasizing in his campaign that the Modi-led government has treated all sections of society equally, with its schemes reaching all communities, including Muslims.

During a rally in Nagaon’s Dhing on April 19, where over 80% of voters are Muslim, the chief minister addressed a large crowd from the community. Since then, minority voters have been attending BJP rallies in large numbers.

In this Lok Sabha election in Assam, the BJP is contesting in 11 out of 14 seats, while its allies AGP and UPPL are contesting in two and one seat respectively.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 7 out of 14 seats in Assam, while the Congress and AIUDF each won three seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP increased its seat count to 9, while the Congress maintained three seats and the AIUDF won one seat.
