New Delhi, 3rd May.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently dropped its sitting MP Brij Bhushan Singh from the Kaiserganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Instead, they named his son, Karan Bhushan Singh, as the Lok Sabha candidate for the upcoming elections.

Brij Bhushan Singh has faced allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior during his tenure as the President of the Wrestling Federation of India.

In response to the BJP’s decision to field his son, Karan, as a candidate, Brij Bhushan Singh expressed gratitude to the party. He mentioned that people in the area are excited about Karan contesting the election.

The allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh include touching women athletes inappropriately, asking inappropriate personal questions, and demanding sexual favors. Prominent wrestlers, including Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat, had protested against him last year.

Despite the controversy, the BJP chose to replace Brij Bhushan Singh with his son due to the political influence the six-time MP holds in the area.

Sources within the BJP confirmed that the party leadership had discussed the matter with him, and the heavyweight politician was still insisting on participating in the polls. Brij Bhushan Singh’s elder son, Pratik Bhushan Singh, is already an MLA, while Karan Bhushan Singh currently heads the Uttar Pradesh wrestling body1.

This situation highlights the delicate balance political parties often face when dealing with influential members who are embroiled in controversies. The BJP’s decision to field Brij Bhushan Singh’s son reflects their consideration of both political dynamics and public sentiment.
