Agartala, 13th August.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a decisive victory in the recent three-tier Panchayat elections held on August 8, securing a commanding presence across multiple constituencies in Tripura. The BJP’s performance was particularly strong, capturing numerous wards throughout the state.

In West Tripura district, the BJP won all seats except for one or two in the Dukli Rural Development Block, where the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) managed to secure a few victories. The results for all 17 Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and Panchayat Seats have been finalized, with the BJP emerging as the dominant force. Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Election Officer of West Tripura, confirmed, “The results of the elections were declared today. Till now, results in all the seats of West Tripura district have been declared and in all the 17 Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and Panchayat Seats, BJP candidates have won, excluding one or two seats under Dukli Rural Development Block, where the Tipra Motha Party has won.”

The BJP’s sweeping victory in West Tripura marks a significant achievement, underscoring its strong foothold in the region. The limited wins by TMP in Dukli provide a minor boost to the opposition, but the overall outcome is a clear triumph for the BJP.

Counting is still underway in Unakoti and North Tripura districts, with results expected soon. Preliminary reports indicate that BJP candidates have secured victories by substantial margins in other districts, with the exception of some areas in Ambassa district where CPI (M) candidates have won.

Voter turnout was notably high, with 79.06 percent of eligible voters casting their ballots by 4 pm, according to the State Election Commission (SEC).

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha had earlier expressed confidence in the BJP’s success in the elections and had visited Mata Tripuri Temple to offer prayers on the last day of nominations.

In a move aimed at boosting employment, the Tripura government has announced the release of over 10,000 job opportunities following the completion of the panchayat elections. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Saha, includes positions in the Tripura Police, Junior Recruitment Board Tripura (JRBT), and Special Executives. The move is expected to significantly address unemployment and contribute to the state’s development.
