Lucknow, 8th May.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati announced on Tuesday via the microblogging platform X that her nephew Akash Anand has been relieved of his duties as the national coordinator of the party and as her successor. This decision, Mayawati clarified, was made “in the larger interest of the party and the movement.”

Mayawati’s tweet stated, “I declared Akash Anand as the national coordinator of BSP and my successor, but in the larger interest of the party and the movement, he is being separated from both these important responsibilities until he attains full maturity.”

She further mentioned that Akash Anand’s father, Anand Kumar, would continue to fulfill his responsibilities within the party and the movement as before.

This move comes in the wake of a Model Code of Conduct violation case registered against Akash Anand and four others on April 28. The case was filed following allegations of objectionable language used during a poll rally in Sitapur.

During the rally, Akash Anand reportedly criticized the ruling government, referring to it as a “bulldozer government” and accusing it of various failures, including issues related to youth unemployment, safety for women and children, and electoral malpractices. Allegations of financial wrongdoing against the BJP were also leveled.

The Superintendent of Police (Sitapur) Chakresh Mishra stated that the speech was deemed to incite violence and contained unparliamentary language, hence violating the Model Code of Conduct.
