Kolkata, 3rd July.
The Calcutta High Court is set to hear a defamation suit filed by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The suit, filed on June 28, comes in response to Banerjee’s statement claiming that women had expressed fear about visiting Raj Bhavan due to alleged activities there.

Scheduled for Wednesday, the defamation case will be heard before Justice Krishna Rao’s bench, as per information available on the high court’s website.

Banerjee’s remarks were made during an administrative meeting at the state secretariat on June 27, where she cited concerns reportedly voiced by women regarding Raj Bhavan. In response, Governor Bose slammed the statement, emphasizing the responsibility of public figures to refrain from creating misleading and damaging impressions.

The controversy arose earlier in May when a contractual female employee of Raj Bhavan accused Bose of molestation, prompting an investigation by the Kolkata Police. It’s worth noting that under Article 361 of the Constitution, no criminal proceedings can be initiated against a governor during their term in office.
