New Delhi, 12th Feb.
In a landmark move, the Constable (GD) examination for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be conducted in 13 regional languages, alongside Hindi and English, for the first time. Scheduled from February 20 to March 7, 2024, the examination aims to accommodate approximately 48 lakh candidates across 128 cities nationwide.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) took the historic decision to conduct the Constable (General Duty) examination in regional languages from January 1, 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by Amit Shah, aims to enhance the participation of local youth in the CAPFs and promote linguistic diversity.

The question papers for the Constable (General Duty) examination will now be available in 13 regional languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri, and Konkani, in addition to Hindi and English.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate the examination in these regional languages. SSC has issued notifications to conduct the Constable (GD) Examination, 2024, accordingly.

This decision is expected to significantly increase the participation of candidates, enabling them to take the examination in their mother tongue or regional language, thereby enhancing their chances of selection. It ensures equal opportunities for employment across the country, aligning with the government’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

With this initiative, the Central Government aims to provide a golden opportunity for youth nationwide to pursue a career in the service of the nation by participating in the Constable (General Duty) examination in their preferred language.
