Kolkata, 25th August. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted extensive searches on Sunday at 15 locations connected to former RG Kar Medical College principal, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, and his relatives in Kolkata.

The operation, which also targeted the residence of Dr. Debashish Som, Demonstrator of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at the college, follows a complaint filed by Akhtar Ali, former Deputy Superintendent, alleging corruption and irregularities at the institution.

The CBI action comes in response to a recent First Information Report (FIR) filed against Dr. Ghosh, based on directives from the Calcutta High Court. This investigation was triggered by the court’s order to probe alleged corruption within the medical college. The court has granted the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, with a deadline of September 17.

In related developments, the Supreme Court has mandated that security at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital be transferred to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in light of a recent tragic incident. A trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the college on August 9, prompting heightened security measures and judicial scrutiny.
