New Delhi, 12th Jan. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to three e-commerce companies for allegedly selling toys without a quality mark from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The notices were sent to Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal just one day after the government announced that it had seized 18,600 toys without a BIS quality mark from major retail stores across the country, including Hamleys and Archies.

From January 1, 2021, the government has made it mandatory for toymakers to comply with BIS safety standards.

“We received complaints from domestic manufacturers about the sale of toys that do not conform with the BIS standard. We conducted 44 raids in the last one month and seized 18,600 toys from major retail stores,” BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari said.

Tiwari stated that legal action will be taken against the retailers in accordance with the provisions of the BIS act. Meanwhile, CCPA chief Nidhi Khare said, “We have also issued notices to Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal for selling toys without a BIS quality mark.
