Chouhan Approves ₹5,548 Cr MSP Procurement for Pulses, Oilseeds

• ₹5,547.99 crore MSP procurement approved under PSS.

New Delhi, 30th Sept: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved procurement worth ₹5,547.99 crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) for the Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27 in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.

The approved procurement will cover 7.06 lakh metric tonnes of pulses and oilseeds, with the government saying the move is intended to protect farmers from declining market prices and provide remunerative returns.

In Uttar Pradesh, procurement worth ₹3,992.57 crore has been approved for 4.66 lakh MT of tur, valued at ₹3,937.70 crore, and 6,250 MT of moong, valued at ₹54.87 crore.

For Karnataka, the approved procurement amounts to ₹1,107 crore. This includes 1,15,500 MT of soybean worth ₹659.27 crore, 38,250 MT of moong worth ₹335.83 crore and 13,413 MT of sunflower valued at ₹111.90 crore.

In Telangana, procurement worth ₹448.42 crore has been approved for 62,000 MT of soybean, valued at ₹353.90 crore, and 10,766 MT of moong, valued at ₹94.52 crore.

Chouhan said the decision would provide greater economic security to farmers while encouraging domestic production of pulses and oilseeds. The government also said the procurement would contribute to efforts to strengthen self-reliance in pulses and edible oils.

The Agriculture Ministry said procurement would be carried out through designated centres, with payments to farmers to be transferred directly into their bank accounts.

The move comes as the government seeks to use MSP procurement to support pulse and oilseed growers when market prices fall below the support price.
