Commando Units in Moreh to Be Relocated: Manipur Security Advisor

Imphal, 19th Jan.
The security advisor of the Manipur government, Kuldiep Singh, stated on Thursday that the current locations of the three state police commando units in the violence-stricken town of Moreh are not suitable and make them vulnerable targets.

In view of the recent militant attack on the forces, it has been decided to relocate the three commando units to other areas of the border town.

Singh mentioned that an intelligence report had previously warned of insurgent attacks, including possible reinforcements from Burma, but there is no evidence connecting foreign parties to the incident.

During a press conference, Singh explained that the commando posts at two hotels and SBI Moreh were targeted by militants. After several coordination meetings, it was concluded that the units were positioned in lower areas of the town, making them susceptible to attacks from higher ground. Therefore, the decision was made to relocate the units to higher areas where they can effectively counter the militants.

Operations against the militants began on Thursday evening. Additional reinforcements, including one BSF company, two army columns, and four casper vehicles, have arrived in Moreh.

Additionally, a helicopter from the Union Home Ministry has been deployed to the area.

Singh emphasized that measures have been taken to ensure collaboration among all forces in order to take action against the militants.
